"Week 7, I think?? I'm starting to lose track! haha"

Hola todos!!!

Hearing some amazing things about things happening back home!! Heard about Gracie and Mom having an awesome time at girls camp at Camp Ritchie!! So glad that they both had so much fun!!  Also heard that Ben went to EFY, just missed on the overlap at the airport by a few hours before I left Provo.  Shoot!!  However, I did hear that Benny is getting some love from LSU, which is super exciting.  Also heard that Brik and Dad had an amazing time at Great America!!  I had a great time being able to talk to Brik, Gracie, and Mom on Monday before I took off for Houston.

So I have officially left the MTC and am currently in Texas!  This is kind of crazy, not going to lie, but it's awesome!!  Like kind of nuts to think that I'm already here.  Freeeeaaaaky!!  President Guthrie picked us up from the airport.  He is honestly the best.  I can officially say he is my idol.  His wife is awesome and full of energy.  His kids are great.  I met all of them and love ‘em! This picture is of all the new missionaries that arrived together.

First thing that I realized was that i know absolutely no Spanish😂😂  I got assigned to have Elder Ledezma as my companion here.  He's from Mexico, and is pretty much fluent in Spanish.  He about 25 years old and has been out here for 1.5 years.  He also speaks really fast and uses a lot of slang, soooo it's taking all my brain power to keep up.   I got assigned to the Houston 1st ward, and it's just a straight Spanish ward.  It's weird, there's a lot of Spanglish, so when I start trying to say something in Spanish, they all answer in English.  Brain is switching back and forth all the time haha!!  The area I am serving in has a little bit of downtown and it is JUST outside of the city.  It has Minute Maid Park in the area along with Rockets Stadium.  Haven't been there yet, but looking forward to it.

People are feeding us really well!  We have lots of flautas and they are so good. I’ve met Elder Tai.  He’s  the man.  He’s 6’8 and from Tonga and will play football for BYU when he’s done with his mission.

We had some pretty cool experiences this week.  We had a baptism this week of Michael and Jennifer.  They're younger kids from Honduras that accepted the gospel.  They honestly know so much and have such a strong testimony of the gospel already.  It was really special.  Their mom is going to get baptized too, Edith, but she's waiting to do it with her husband, who should be coming anytime.  Honestly it's got a really strong influence here from Guatemala and Honduras.  People from Honduras talk so fast.  But the Guatemalans are awesome!!   Its hard to get in investigators houses, and hard to get out of members homes.  They are so nice.  Once in a while we get 2 dinners a day, because they just invite us in...  We also cook for ourselves lunch and dinner at times.  Sometimes we skip dinner and just eat when we get home at 9:00 because thats like primetime for contacting and tracting on the street.  There is this place called Guadville that is straight all from Guatemala, and its crazy.  The people are so nice.  Everyone here loves Jesus, so we talk to a lot of people.

I’m not complaining about the food at all!

Also, a cool highlight, we met, and taught a Nigerian chief and his son!  His name is Chief Alfred. It was the randomest thing.  He just asked us what we were doing, and we explained, and he invited us up to his apartment to talk about God and Christ.  We are going back there today to teach them today.

Also, I got to give my testimony in church the other day.  It was awesome!!  It actually wasn't horrible.  People said I did a good job, I think.  They all talked so fast.  I am waiting for the day I don't need to think so much in Spanish!!  Faith, prayer, and lots of studying, that's going to be the way!!

I am completely drenched in sweat every day.  Took this picture to prove it.  Houston is just a little warm.  :)

Spiritual thought for the week:  We had a meeting with President Guthrie, and he gave a great talk about the Atonement, and how to succeed.  He said that success is not going without failure.  It's about going from failure to failure without faith being lost.  The Atonement isn't a destination, it is a journey.  It is sufficient for all of us, if we submit to the will of Christ, because he did it all for all of us.  Great talk: "Behold the Man" - Bishop Edgely.

Love you all, and hope you are having a great day!!!

Brett
